The Government of Mexico City (CDMX) has announced a new social program called "Universal Citizen Income for people aged 57 to 59 years," designed to meet the specific needs of this age group. According to data from the Evaluation Council of Mexico City, nearly half of people aged 57 to 59 are in a situation of poverty.
To access this pension, certain requirements must be met. First, applicants must be between 57 and 59 years old and reside in Mexico City. Additionally, they cannot receive other economic aids from the government. The application must be made in person, and a valid official identification with a photograph must be presented. In special cases, if the applicant cannot attend in person, another responsible person may do so on their behalf.
The pension, which will consist of a payment of 2,000 Mexican pesos every two months, will be delivered for free and universally through an electronic card. The first payments will be made between November and December 2024.
The process to apply for this pension is simple. Interested parties must gather the required documentation, go to the service modules of the Secretary of Citizen Attention and Participation and the SEBIEN, complete the form, and receive an application receipt with a registration number. Subsequently, the applicant's information will be updated, they will be enrolled in the program, and the electronic card will be provided to receive the pension.
Finally, certain conditions may lead to the loss of the pension, such as exceeding the age limit, ceasing to reside in Mexico City, the death of the beneficiary, falsification of documentation, or failing to pick up the electronic card within the established timeframe. It is important to have the necessary documents, such as official identification, birth certificate, CURP, and current proof of residence, to complete the pension application process.
